Since it has been unseasonably cool in NJ, I am not prepared for 95º temps. The instructors start at 7:30 and do the outside stuff in the morning, but I'm not supposed to sweat at all, let alone at 8:30 in the morning. It upets the balance of nature.
I had 2 days of safety class last week but no pole climbing. We did ladders 18-20 feet inth the air against poles and mid-span against the strand wire. Those instructors said that they don't teach climbing anymore in the safety class. Kind of make sense to me considering that we have ladders and a bucket truck, the risk seems a bit unnecessary to me.
I have another 5 days starting Monday but that class sounds like it is the more specific tasks of the job, so maybe there won't be any pole climbing. Before coming to the class I had many hours of web based training, which included courses on climbing spurs and "buck-squeeze" belt for pole climbing.

Tom,
I do not claim to know much about ascending the pole, but one thing I do know about decending one. Do NOT slide back down! I know you are really enjoying all the new experiences ATT is teaching you. Have FUN and stay well. See you when you get home.
